Contemporary art exhibition “The sea of memories”
17.07. – 01.09. 2019.
Curator Inga Bunkše
The exhibition “The sea of memories” draws attention to the pollution of the Baltic Sea. It is an interdisciplinary, mournful and grim analogy based story about the fragile life of a man and the sea, about seemingly naïve and banal values, which can be evaluated only facing eternity. It is an absurd and surreal love story that could have ended as usual — “…then they married and lived happily ever after”. But this is a different message that makes us realize how connected we all are – people, nature, sea.
Eva Saukāne video installation with Aivars Vegners 90s amateur video fragments, as well as fragments from Reinis Sējāns ballet “Crow” (Vārna, 2016) starring Elza Leimane. Video installation will be simultaneously projected on a variety of screens of different sizes, blending the past, the present and the unfulfilled future. Exhibited are objects made by Kristīne Abika from the items washed out of the sea. Author of the text and exhibition curator Inga Bunkše.
